Carpino Helps Salvation Army Raise Money
CROMWELL - State Rep. Christie Carpino helped raise hundreds of dollars for the Salvation Army this holiday season. Carpino, who represents Cromwell and Portland, volunteered as a bell ringer for the organization for the second year, taking an hour-long shift alongside one of their red collection kettles outside the Cromwell Wal-Mart.
The state lawmaker collected hundreds of dollars in donations and chatted with constituents about issues tied to the legislature. Wal-Mart agreed to match dollar-for-dollar what Carpino raised during the hour.
The matching funds will be given to Jensen’s Fund, a registered 501c3, which was created as a celebration of the life of Jensen Charles Lynn who passed away at the tender age of six in 2003. All proceeds benefit Sir Jensen’s Court playground at Pierson Park in Cromwell.
“I am overwhelmed but not surprised by the generosity of our townspeople. Last week, pieces of Cromwell’s Jensen Fund Playground were stolen. Sir Jensen’s Court is loved by all the children in town and this is a wonderful opportunity for these funds to be used by many,” said Carpino.
