Top Ten Finishes at Wickham Cross Country Invitational
MANCHESTER - Rocky Hill’s Alex Tan held off an encroaching Troy Stegman from Wethersfield to secure a seventh place finish in the boys unseeded race at the 2013 Wickham Park Invitation Cross Country Meet in Manchester Saturday.
Tan, a senior, finished the 5K course in 17:32, with Stegman, a sophomore finishing in the same time.
Tan’s top 10 finish put the Rocky Hill boys 22nd overall out of 50 teams in the race, with sophomore Scott Kennedy in 135th, senior Bitu Patel in 158th, sophomore Billy Crafa in 181st, and freshman Kris Begen in 210th rounding out the Terriers scorers.
Senior Jackie Saucier was the first on the girl’s team to finish for Rocky Hill in 161st place in 24:57. Sophomore Jessica Greenspan in 202nd, senior Maggie Begen in 217th, sophomore Morgan Guerra in 249th and junior Erica Lucente in 260th brought the Terrier girls to a 39th finish in the girls unseeded division.
Following Stegman, Wethersfield senior Kyle Vonick took 59th, junior Tommy Duggan took 99th, junior Mike Pazdziora took 131st and sophomore Carl Diluvio took 157th to put the Eagles in 10th as a team in the boys unseeded race.
Sophomore Rebecca Hine was Wethersfield’s top female finisher in 21:56, good for 31st place. Senior Nicole Varca in 71st, junior Rebecca Stefano in 123rd, sophomore Kate Lamberti in 168th and senior Kassandrah Bank in 198th followed. The team finished 19th of 41 teams in the girls unseeded race.
Cromwell junior Nicole Faucette was the Panthers’ top finisher, taking fifth in the unseeded race in 20:39. Teammate Nicole Bitinaitis, a freshman, followed closely in 12th in 21:00. Senior Emily Bacon in 57th, freshman Kathryn Kelleher in 135th, and sophomore Shelly Delaney in 190th rounded out the top five Panthers, who finished seventh overall as a team.
Junior Erik Rodriguez was Cromwell’s top runner in the boys unseeded race in 61st with a time of 18:49, followed by junior Luke Grandprie in 116th, senior Aaron Kelleher in 170th, junior Adam Kochanowicz in 276th and freshman Trevor Cook in 334th. The boys team finished 38th overall.
