Town Hall, Library Soon to Have Surveillance Cameras
WETHERSFIELD - The entrances of Wethersfield Town Hall and the neighboring Wethersfield Public Library will see some video surveillance.

The Town Council voted unanimously to accept a $26,847 bid from North Haven-based Advanced Alarms for security cameras during its April 3 meeting. Of eight firms to respond, Advanced Alarms offered the lowest price, according to Town Engineer Mike Turner.

â€"The [Town Hall] building is generally not secured at night because it’s open to meetings, so having some security recording is probably a good thing,” said Town Manager Jeff Bridges during a discussion before the vote was taken.

The CCTV digital surveillance cameras will be motion activated, according to Turner.

â€"The system does not need monitoring, but can be interconnected to allow remote access for police coverage,” Turner said.

The second lowest bidder was Horizon Technologies, Inc., a Wethersfield-based firm. Horizon came in with a $32,956 offer, according to Turner.

â€"Their bid was slightly outside the 10 percent gap where our local vendor ordinance would apply,” he said.

The Wethersfield Town Charter stipulates that â€"consideration must be afforded to any local bidders having submitted a bid that is not more than 10 percent higher than the lowest responsible bidder”, according to the town website.

If chosen for a job, businesses that reside in Wethersfield must accept a contract for an amount equal to the lowest bidder, the ordinance says.
