Cadettes Collect Donations for St. Vincent de Paul
CROMWELL - Troop 62145 Cadettes, all sixth-graders at Cromwell Middle School, recently completed their spring community service by volunteering their time and supplying much-needed food for the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Middletown.

The girls used funds remaining from their fall fundraising hoedown dance to supply and make 300 sandwiches for distribution at the Main Street soup kitchen Saturday, May 31. The soup kitchen serves many of the area homeless or shelter residents and always experiences higher demand towards the end of the month, according to St. Vincent de Paul Director Lydia Brewster, so the girls’ efforts were greatly appreciated.

The girls shopped and made sandwiches or worked at the kitchen, helping to prep, cook and clean up the hot meal that was provided that day. One troop member even took it upon herself to bake chocolate chip cookies to supply with the sandwiches and used her own allowance to purchase some hygiene materials to donate, as well.

The girls had a wonderful time and learned many lessons from this experience. They all expressed a desire to go back and do this again sometime.
