Wethersfield Basketball is Coming Home
WETHERSFIELD - The renovations at Wethersfield High School are complete and the newly minted gymnasium is ready to be utilized.

The completion of the work allowed the boys’basketball team to play their first home game this week. Coming into this week, the Eagles had won seven of their nine games this season, all on the road.

The early season success can be attributed to the great all-around play of the team. The team only has three seniors on the roster, but all three have been instrumental this season. Center Yianni Mantziaris has been a force in the middle and guards Dennis Harrington and Jacob Arcouette have helped solidified the perimeter. The Eagles have also gotten contributions from several other non-seniors, including juniors Jake Collagan and Devon Smith. Collagan is a sharp-shooter who can also attack the basket and Smith is the utility player that excels on the defensive end.

The team is set to play six consecutive games at the new digs. The home stand starts Tuesday, Jan. 27, against Rockville. The game tips at 7 p.m.

The girls team played the first game inside the new facility and defeated East Hartford 44-40. The win was their seventh in eleven contests this season. The team now plays four of the next five games at home, starting with Glastonbury this Thursday at 7 p.m.
