Driver Strikes Pedestrian on Route 3 in Wethersfield
WETHERSFIELD - On Monday, Aug. 24, at approximately 9:56 p.m. the Wethersfield Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a pedestrian was struck by a car on Maple Street (Route 3) at the intersection with Fox Hill Road. After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle left the scene. Numerous police officers as well as ambulance personnel responded to the scene. Arriving officers found the pedestrian on the side of Maple Street suffering from serious injuries to his left arm. After being treated at the scene, he was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

       A short time after leaving the scene of the accident on Maple Street, the investigating officer located the suspect vehicle in the parking lot of Motel Six, 1341 Silas Deane Hwy. The officer located the suspect in a room at the motel. There was a small amount of marijuana and marijuana plant material located in the room as well. The investigation at Motel Six resulted in the arrest of Shawn Kornichuk, 23, of Liberty Street, New Britain. Kornichuk was held on a $25,000 bond and was presented in court in New Britain Aug. 25.
