Coffee with the Mayor Sessions Return
WETHERSFIELD - Mayor Paul Montinieri will be hosting his Coffee with the Mayor sessions again in December, and he’s asking that participating residents bring a little something to help out a Hartford homeless shelter.

When Montinieri initially announced the reboot of the Coffee with the Mayor program, an open invitation for residents to sit down with him and discuss town issues over-as the name implies-a cup of coffee, he had requested donations for the Wethersfield food pantry, which he says at the time had been almost depleted.

â€"They’ve had a big influx of food since then,” Montinieri said.

So he shifted gears, choosing instead to focus on the Hartford-based Open Hearth Shelter, which provides emergency shelter services, as well as job and transitional programs for individuals dealing with homelessness.

â€"It’s a great organization,” Montinieri said. â€"They’re amazing. They’re desperate for toiletries, underarm deodorant, and socks.”

Montinieri will be at the Wethersfield Diner Dec. 1 from 7 to 9 a.m. On Dec. 3, he’ll be at Old Town Restaurant in Old Wethesfield between the same hours.

Montinieri first launched the program at the beginning of his first term as mayor, noting a 29 percent voter turnout-compared to over 40 percent in 2000--during that election. He said that his goals were to engage more residents in the political process, and hear what people’s concerns are regarding issues affecting the town.
