CROMWELL - Cromwell/Portland’s defensive standout Justice Taylor was named the most valuable player of the Pequot League. Taylor led the team with 16 tackles for loss and recorded eight sacks and another 15 quarterback hurries in eight games. The defensive lineman was the leader of a stout defense that surrendered less than 14 point per game during the Panthers 8-2 season.
Taylor was joined on the All-Pequot league/conference team by teammates Nelson Carlson, Kristian Sapp, Ethan Roy, Mayze James, Jack Wilson, Austin Ramberose and Mersad Zilkic.
Cromwell’s quarterback Jarius Bailey was also recognized with the Teddy Netko Award, which is awarded to the player that persevered through adversity. Bailey tore his ACL and meniscus in training camp, yet played the entire season with the normally debilitating injury. Despite the injury, he played well, throwing for eight touchdowns and leading an offense that averaged nearly 29 points per game.
