Three Area Ballers Join 1,000-Point Club
NEWINGTON - A trio of the area’s best basketball players joined an elite club. Newington’s Jared Simmons, Cromwell’s Mya Villard and Rocky Hill’s Nick Casiano each surpassed the 1,000-point barrier in their illustrious high school hardwood careers.

Simmons was the first to accomplish the feat during a thrilling double-overtime victory at Wethersfield Jan. 22. The junior juggernaut exceeded the point total on a three-pointer, finishing the game with 25 points. He leads the team in scoring and has been instrumental during the Indians unblemished start.

Villard reached the mark on a free-throw during a 66-17 home-victory over Portland Jan. 26. The do-it-all senior leads the team in scoring and has been invaluable for the Panthers during their undefeated run.

Casiano leads the Terriers in scoring and reached the plateau Feb. 2 at Plainville. He, like Simmons, is only a junior so he’ll have plenty of opportunities to increase his impressive point-total before all is said and done.

The trifecta of prolific scorers will be in action this Friday. Newington hosts Maloney, Cromwell welcomes North Branford, and Rocky Hill entertains Bristol Eastern. All three games tip at 7 p.m.
