Two Race to Individual Conference Titles
- The Wethersfield, Rocky Hill and Newington indoor track teams yielded two conference champions and a runner-up at Saturday’s Central Connecticut Conference meet at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

       Wethersfield senior Oneil Drummond edged out Middletown’s Jashane Brown for first in the 55-meter dash. He won by .01 seconds, in 6.62.

       Rocky Hill junior Alex Tan took off from the pack mid-race in the 1,000 meters and lead the rest of the way, winning in 2:41.12.

       Newington’s Troy Gagnon finished second in the 600 meters in 1:26.32.

       The Wethersfield boys finished sixth overall with 29 points, Rocky Hill tied with Farmington for 14th with 15 points and Newington placed 12th with 18 points.

       On the girls side, Wethersfield finished 17th with seven points and Newington tied for 19th with Rockville and Hartford Public with five points. The Rocky Hill girls team did not place.

       Other strong performances backed the conference champions’. Wethersfield’s boys 4X200 relay of Jalyn Campbell, Connor Jones, Theo Carbone and Drummond finished third in 1:36.28.

       The Rocky Hill boys 1,600-meter sprint medley of Tan, Shane Steinman, Alex Brown and Alex DeNardo finished fourth overall in 3:51.46 after Tan made up much ground in his 800-meter leg for a second place finish within the heat.

       Newington’s 4X200 of Gagnon, Isaiah Rivera, Patrick Teevan and Eric Ryan finished fifth in 1:37.93.

       The Newington girls sprint medley of Caroline Ryan, Tina Sawyer, Aileen Mezquia and Lauren Zadzilko finished sixth in 4:42.58. Ryan also finished seventh overall in the 600 meters, leading for much of her heat but ultimately being out-kicked for third in 1:45.56.

       The Wethersfield boys 4X800 of Greg Schroeder, Marc Howes, Matt Duggan and Troy Stegman finished eighth in 8:51.27.
